About this design
This pattern is adapted from De Poolse Muts by Balthasar van der Ast (Dutch, 1593/94–1657), c. 1620–30 (brush and watercolor in red, green, and yellow with white heightening or grey wash on antique laid cream paper). It is in the collection of The Cleveland Museum of Art, which releases the image under CC0 (public domain). The museum notes: "Still-life painting began in the Northern Netherlands (present-day Holland) around the turn of the 1600s."
The chart uses 12 DMC colours and 1,085 full cross stitches; the background is left unstitched so the fabric shows through. On 14-count Aida it measures 16.3 x 23.8 cm (6.4 x 9.4 in).
